We decided to escape the heat and drive over to San Diego. It is a 6 hour drive and the temperature promised to be about 40 degrees cooler than our home. We last visited San Diego about 10 years ago so this was like a whole new adventure for us.
Tops on our list was to visit the Hotel Del Coronado, Old Town, and take a tour of the USS Midway. The weather there did not disappoint and it is so nice to be able to enjoy a glass of wine overlooking the bay at the end of the day.
As military retirees, we were lucky enough to get a room on the Point Loma Naval Base on the bay. Next time we want to see if we can get into the Navy Lodge on North Island which is right next to the Hotel Del Coronado.
It was a great trip. We had a great time and can’t wait to plan another trip there soon. Both of us grew up in the midwest so just sitting and watching the ocean and the waves crashing on the shore is a real treat.
