Newtons Nook Cosmic Newton Have a Blast Card Tutorial – 2 Crafty Little Sisters

Newtons Nook Cosmic Newton Have a Blast Card Tutorial

I came across this adorable stamp set from Newton’s Nook called Cosmic Newton..and I had to have it!!  I knew it would be a lot of fun creating cards with this stamp set, they are just too cute!

This is a card I created during my playtime today, I love using watercolor pencils to color in my stamps.  You can find a video on the technique I use at the end of this post.

Newton’s Nook Cosmic Newton “Have a Blast” card tutorial

Take a piece of GP Image Plus+ White Cardstock and cut it at 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″, scored at 4-1/4″ and fold it. I use my Fiskar paper trimmer all the time.  I really like the way it accurately cuts that paper.

Then cut a piece of red polka dot designer paper 4″ x 5-1/4″ and adhere to the front of the card blank.

Cut a piece of white cardstock 3-1/2″ x 2″, using my Scor-Pal Scoring Board I scored it at 1/4″ on 3 sides.

Cut across the bottom corners and trim down the top edges.

Fold the edges under and glue to the front of the card 1/2″ from the bottom.

One tip I’d like to impart…after trying many types of glue I recommend Art Institute Glitter Designer glue, it dries clear and has a little give, a lot of glues I’ve tried once you lay it down you can’t move it…this is a fast drying glue but you can move it around right after you place it and I rarely get my pieces perfect the first time LOL.  I use it with the Art Glittering System Ultra Fine Metal Tip for a more precision placement.

Cut a piece of red polka dot designer paper 2-3/4″ x 1-1/2″ and adhere to the front of the pocket.

Cut a piece of black cardstock 2″ x 1-1/4″.

Cut a piece of white cardstock 1-3/4″ x 1″, stamp “Have a Blast” onto the front and adhere it to the black cardstock, then to the front of the pocket.

Cut out a tag from white cardstock, I used a die to cut out the tag.

I stamped the cat rocket onto the tag using my new Tim Holtz Stamping Platform which I’m finding awesome!

I then colored in the stamped images with colored pencils using the technique in the video below.

I have since started using  Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils, Soft Core, 72 Count for all my coloring.  I use theBlending Tortillions (Dozen) Small to blend out the coloring with Gamsol Odorless Mineral Spirits Bottle, 4.2oz.

The technique for coloring the image can be seen in this video.

Punch a hole in the top of the tag and tie a ribbon through it.
Stamp the inside with your favorite verse and its ready to give!
